Recommending The Girl Who Leapt Through Time: A Beautiful Coming of Age Movie

Today, I’m recommending The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Have you ever wondered what you could do if you had the power to time travel? When 17-year-old Makoto Konno gains the ability to, quite literally, “leap” backward through time, she immediately sets about improving her grades and preventing personal mishaps. However, she soon realizes that changing the past isn’t as simple as it seems, and eventually, will have to rely on her new powers to shape the future of her and her friends. (Synopsis via Crunchyroll.)
Why Should You Watch It?
There are a lot of reasons to watch this movie. First off, it is praised for its gorgeous art and animation. In case you didn’t know, this is directed by Mamoru Hosoda! (Belle, The Boy and the Beast.) And then there’s the well-written characters, amazing soundtrack, and profound themes.

The film’s strength is its simplicity — the slow but intriguing pace and style in the way the story develops and unfolds. As much fun as time-traveling could be, it always has its effects too. And somehow, this light-hearted movie with these high-school kids delivers such real emotions about friends, youth, romance, and life as a whole.
The reason why I’m recommending The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is that it is a precious and beloved masterpiece. If you’d like a slice-of-life version of Steins;Gate, then this is definitely a recommendation that I’ll give wholeheartedly. A recurring quote is, “Time waits for no one” and that is something to think about. It’s definitely worth a watch, time travel fan or not.
