The Detective Is Already Dead is a Japanese light novel series written by Nigojū and illustrated by Umibōzu. It began publication in November 2019 under Media Factory’s MF Bunko J imprint, with English releases licensed by Yen Press.

The series was later adapted into an anime produced by ENGI, with its first season airing in July 2021, and a second season currently slated to premiere in October 2026.

Yen Press describes the story:

Kimihiko Kimizuka, an ordinary high school student who has a tendency to get caught up in trouble, ends up becoming the assistant to a legendary detective named Siesta. Together, they embark on globe-spanning adventures and take on dangerous cases against a mysterious organization. However, their story takes a turn when the detective dies—yet even after her death, new cases begin to emerge, drawing Kimihiko back into a world of mystery.
